Butterflies and Seminars

I did it! I did it!  Waa-hoo!  And now the butterflies are gone too.  But they didn’t start fluttering until minutes before I had to speak.

Several weeks back, Ian, from the photo club I attend asked if I would do a seminar on Family Photography.  It’s only an hour long he says.  But to me that felt like forever….I can’t fill an hour of talking….I don’t talk that much….What will I say?….  I hesitated because I’ve not done much public speaking since my college days.  And I don’t think my photography is THAT good.  But he assured me that it would be okey and I would be a good one to do it.  In the end I thought what is in if for me?  I know it sounds abit selfish but we have to promote our craft and business somehow.  So I said yes.  Then I wrote, scribbled, and wrote again, a presentation on three areas.  Backgrounds, posing and most importantly light.  I went through some of my work to show these concepts.

On Satuday I stood in front of about 20-30 people and explained how I these three concepts in my photography and then some.  About halfway through the butterflies started to vanish and we made it to the end.  It was a wonderful experience and would I do it again….probably…. in a couple of years.  And somehow I managed to talk for a whole hour!

So since a post always looks better with a photo I thought I would put this one on.  I did this family’s picture last fall and it hasn’t made it onto the blog yet.  And since it is one of my favourites I had to share.

Happy Tuesday all!!
